Well, here I go...
I've been thinking of doing something like this for quite some time now. Engaging with the community and giving back to it was something I always wanted but frankly sucked at.
For the longest time, Artstation was just a place to post my work and move on. I sometimes used it for reference, but I mostly use Pinterest for that. Now it feels like it's finally time for me to start changing that by sharing my thoughts, struggles, and my learning progress.
But first, let me introduce myself.
My name is Vasko, I'm 23 years old and currently working as a 3D artist in a small game studio in Sofia, Bulgaria. I love my job. It gives me relative freedom and It usually seems like I have a voice, as well. It was hard finding one - both the job and the voice. Being self-taught and having come from a non-artistic background, it was hard for me to convince studios to give me a chance. I was persistent and in the end, I found what I was looking for. Getting a job showed me the true path of earning whatever you want in life. Before that, I was still working hard and completing goals (i was always competing with life and myself) but after that first day at work, something changed.
I spent the last couple of years desperately trying to find a lifestyle that suits everything I want to do during a normal weekday. It was one of those things that seemed easy at first but then time passed by and nothing was changing much.
Now finally, things are starting to make sense. At first, all I wanted was to get good at something I like and get a job. Then I wanted to have the motivation to work on my art after work. I had so much more to learn and try out. After a while, I started doing more and more after work. At some point, I figured I should add more activities. I felt it wasn't enough. I started freelancing which turned out great to me because I'm working with different people, learning a lot, managing my time, and growing faster and faster. I even managed to improve my personal life by exercising more. Sports were always a big part of my life, but being mostly static around working on a PC all day, had made me lazy and now was the time to resume a healthier lifestyle. I began eating well and working out as much as I could.
In time I started thinking about my future. This wasn't new to me, as I was planning things from a relatively early age, but now all of a sudden I was thinking of my life in 10,15+ years. I always knew I wanted to work on my own projects, maybe create products, games, films but now it seems that with enough work, I can slowly start side projects that might someday grow into something. I started reading a lot about basic fundamentals of business and even investing, which led me to enhance even more my ideal lifestyle and mindset. I realized that next to my hard work I have to add frugality, efficiency (or working smart) and always exploring and improvising. Reading about new and exciting ideas helps me a lot.
I'm obsessed with getting better and better as an artist, I spent most of this year trying to develop habits that can help me achieve my goals. I'm sure I'm not the only one here doing that, so I figured that by sharing what I'm up to, I'll stay even more motivated to continue and I might meet amazing people and maybe even get to help someone along the way. So here comes this blog.
What to expect?
For starters, I promise I'll get better at the whole blogging thing.
I will be writing at least once a week. I'll be sharing progress, sketches, and maybe even a daily journal if people have any interest in it. I also plan to start capturing some of my work on video and maybe doing some challenges.
And... that's it for now. If you've read all of this, please leave a comment or DM me.
Have a creative blast!
